How Can Electronic Music Producers Stand Out?
The use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.
It’s easy to look around you and see what’s working. You’re a new dj/producer and you’re eager to create music people love. So what do you do? You go to parties to listen to the DJ and to see what’s making people move. You hear what’s trending and you go back to your bedroom and try to recreate that sound or vibe. You’ll drop a bunch of releases and maybe hit the Beatport top 100, but are you standing out? Are you being creative?
Check this out. I like Marco Carola. I love his parties. I love the style he plays. I love tech house. When I’m at a MusicOn party I’m having the time of my life, and although I like most of what he’s playing, I can barely distinguish one track from another, for the most part.
If you’re creating music for a specific sound, you might get played, but will people notice the difference when your track drops?
Creativity can be acquired and refined at any age or any experience level. Just be yourself. Art is subjective. Music is art. What you think sucks, might be a masterpiece to millions of other people. Explore new sounds, listen to different genres of music to get inspiration from and experiment with different sounds.
If every producer is going one way, go the other.
When you create your own sound, you create your own lane. People will notice, and your favourite DJs and labels will DEFINITELY notice. You won’t just be another DJ with their track played by so and so DJ, you’ll be on the lineup!
See the world from a different perspective, find hidden patterns, innovate and stand out from the crowd.
